THE FIRST TIME MANAGER - 2

Introduction

A vital component in any organization is the effectiveness of the middle management team.  At this level, the ability to lead, motivate, plan, organise, solve problems, communicate etc., are vital skills.  So often staff are placed into these positions because of their technical abilities, length of service or the need to achieve the employment equity balance – without ensuring that the necessary skills are acquired.

Overall Objectives

To give participants the Basic Management Skills that they require to effectively carry out their responsibilities as Middle Management.

Specific Objectives

This programme will:

  • Identify the specific skills required
  • Provide training in these basics skills
  • Ensure participants leave with a plan of action to facilitate on-going development

  • On-going development of their relationships with their subordinates, peers and senior

Target Audience

The Programme is designed for staff who are in Middle Management Positions (including supervisors).

Methodology

This is a highly interactive Programme with both individual and group exercises and assignments.  A follow-up day is held two months after training.  On this day, feedback on performance from management is worked through and assignments, ‘roadblocks’ and further development are discussed.

Duration

3 days plus 1 day follow-up two months after training
