PLANNING AND ORGANISING

Introduction

As a manager you must see to it that the right people are at the right place at the right time to perform the right task.  In addition, managers performing in the role must be concerned with the physical materials that allow employees to do their work.  They must make sure that the necessary tools of the job are available, that the physical space where the work is to be done is adequate, and that the output of one work-group is available as input for the second work-group when the group is ready.

Overall Objectives

In this module you will learn how to ensure that work flows smoothly and that activities are carried out according to their relative importance with a minimum amount of conflict among individuals, work-groups or work units.

Specific Objectives

  • Understand the components of operational planning
  • Learn how to translate goals into plans
  • Learn how to prepare and maintain the workflow of your systems.
  • Decide on how financial material and human resources should be used to ensure the most effective delivery of services.
  • Learn how to co-ordinate the work of several people work-groups or work units.
  • Learn how to divide work into manageable components and assigning activities to most effectively achieve the desired results.
  • Understand the nature of monitoring and the aspects of workflow that needs to be monitored.

  • The nature of operational planning.
  • Techniques to operationalise goals and strategies.
  • The use and value of several planning and organising tools.
  • Your planning and organising ability by applying it to an interactive group simulation.

Outcomes

Participants will:

  • Have a clear understanding of the competency requirements
  • Have ‘tools’ and processes to facilitate the development of the skill of effective Planning and Organising

Target Group

First time managers, middle management, supervisors and team leaders

Methodology

In this Module, we will use a Case Study, simulation exercises, lecturettes, small group discussions and Acting Planning - back to work application.
